Choosing the Right Wine for a Dinner Party

Being a dinner party guest can be stressful, especially when you aren’t sure which wine you should bring. However, choosing a good bottle of wine should be fun! Here are some easy tips to keep in mind when you’re purchasing your next bottle of wine for a dinner party.

Go for Something Unique

When selecting a wine for a dinner party make sure to avoid wines that your host can easily purchase. Opt for something unique and if possible something personal. If your host likes to travel get a bottle of wine from somewhere they have recently visited. Or if you like to travel purchase a bottle of wine from a region where you enjoyed the wine.

What’s for Dinner?

Although it’s unlikely that your host will open your bottle of wine on the evening of the party, it’ll give you a better idea of what kind of wine you should bring if you know what’s being served for dinner.

Don’t get Hung up on Price Point

Don’t worry too much about how much the bottle costs. It’s more important that you have put thought and effort into your selection. Also keep in mind that more expensive does not necessarily mean better.

Show your Enthusiasm!

Be excited about your selection! It will make the experience of selecting a wine more exciting and less stressful if you choose a bottle that you have enjoyed in the past. Or a bottle that has some sort of personal meaning to you. If wine isn’t your thing bring something else! A nice bottle of beer is never an unwelcome surprise.

When in Doubt

If you’re really stuck bring a bubbly! Sparkling wine is always festive and fun, and if you go one step further and grab some Champagne it’s sure to impress your host! If you’re still stuck ask the wine shop clerk. They are sure to have some good ideas!
